This report from the Institute for Public Policy Research aims to debunk claims from a group of more than 100 MPs that wind power is not an effective technology. It shows that the UK has the greatest potential for wind power of any European country, both onshore and offshore and that the global market for low carbon technologies is continuing to grow rapidly. However, it argues that false claims about wind power technology are putting this potential at risk and could result in higher energy bills for consumers.

Planned cuts in government investment are depressing the flow of public sector projects, while the double dip recession in the UK economy has disrupted a tentative recovery in private sector work. Nevertheless, they say, looking ahead industry prospects are set to brighten, with a gradual strengthening in project starts over the coming year.
