The COPSE (COincident Probabilistic climate change weather data for a Sustainable built Environment) research project was undertaken between 2008 and 2011. Led by Manchester University, with eventually six academic research partners and the Meteorological Office contributing to the overall programme, the core aim of the project was to develop robust methodologies for producing weather data files for assessing building designs in future climates, considering the period up to 2080, with particular reference to comfort and energy use.

The Planners Network UK (PNUK) is a group of professionals, academics and others who believe that there is a need for a new long term rethink of the planning and development system in the UK. They argue that it is not just that the current system fails to deliver the housing and sustainable development that is needed, but that the system is unfair and unjust. They believe that successive governments have failed to grasp the vital need to look at land, planning and the property market as one set of overlapping issues that must be radically reformed together. The group has published a manifesto for planning and reform as a basis for discussion.

Such analysis informs policy aimed at encouraging international technology transfer and development of domestic innovation capacities. The National Infrastructure Plan has three elements: effective planning for the medium term across all sectors;  mobilising financing and funding for infrastructure investment; and  the Government taking an active role in ensuring the infrastructure in the plan is delivered.
