The World Bank has released a report that aims to facilitate the development of a policy framework for promoting climate-friendly investment in South Asia. A major output of the study is the piloting of the Climate Investment Readiness Index, a tool for evaluating the enabling environment for private sector investment in different countries.

The aim was to showcase the trolleybus as a smart, innovative and sustainable transport mode, as in particular in Germany the trolleybus is often not considered as a future-looking transport mode. The conference highlighted existing systems worldwide and in Germany as well as introduction plans for the cities of Montreal, Canada, and Leeds, UK, and newest developments from the ebus industry. The TROLLEY project presented its results from local pilot studies and investments in the TROLLEY partner cities. Presentations are available online.

The theme of this meeting was ‘Supporting the Journey to Adaptation’. The first day focused on the research and synthesis needed to support future climate change risk assessments and adaptation planning. The second day focused on how research feeds into policy and practice, showcasing activities that are exploring different ways of communicating with stakeholders. The Crossrail Graduate Scheme is a brand new programme for 2013 offering graduate engineers the opportunity to play a key role in Europe’s largest tunnelling and underground construction project. The scheme will start with an intake of eight graduates each year for the next four years. The House of Commons Northern Ireland Affairs Committee has published the findings of its inquiry into an air transport strategy for Northern Ireland. The inquiry considered: the implications of current air links for Northern Ireland, specifically the economy and the effect on people’s social and family lives; regional and international connectivity; the lack of public transport links to, and between, Belfast International, Belfast City and City of Derry airports; the implications for Northern Ireland of the Civil Aviation Bill; the implications of the proposed takeover of bmi by the International Airlines Group, and tax policy.
