In this report, an analysis of the current situation of food tourism is presented, through a survey of Affiliate Members of the World Tourism Organization and the input of tourism and gastronomy professionals with extensive experience in international organizations, in destination training. The aim was to try to obtain a series of conclusions regarding some of the initiatives that are going on worldwide in food tourism for possible inclusion in the strategic reflection process being carried out by both public sector and businesses about policies for development and promotion in this field.

The Lead Sheet Association has worked with some key organisations in the construction industry to examine more closely the properties and benefits of using lead, particularly in relation to its economic, technical and environmental characteristics. It also undertook some comparisons in its workshop with some of the man-made products currently available in the market. This document presents a summary of the findings. This survey from ABTA, the UK’s leading travel association, sets out the reasons why the travel industry should be optimistic for 2013. Feedback indicates that holidays are the item consumers would be most unwilling to cut back on. The continued squeeze on household finances is, however, expected to see holidaymakers continue to look for good value holidays in 2013.

Sustainable Cities International, an active network of over 40 international cities embracing long-term urban sustainability, has published a report which examines the work that a selection of cities globally has made towards establishing sustainability indicators to monitor the success of their sustainability plans. The research has focused on identifying the commonalities between the cities analysed to create a tool kit that will serve as a starting point for other cities that are interested in establishing or developing sustainability indicators.
Private rented housing: Providing stability and affordability for renters and families

This document, published in December 2012, sets out new thinking from Labour’s Policy Review on giving stability and financial certainty to private renters, including over one million families with children. These proposals would give families and other renters the opportunity to access longer term tenancies allied to predictable rents. The Residential Landlords Association has published a guide which sets out what the Labour Party review is saying about the private rented sector. This can be viewed online here.
