State of the Nation: Transport

Every year the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) publishes a State of the Nation report in order to stimulate debate and to highlight the actions that needed to improve the state of the nation´s infrastructure. The 2013 report will will look at the state of the UK’s transport infrastructure, to inform government policy and decisions through this electoral cycle and beyond. ICE has begun its formal State of the Nation evidence gathering with an open ‘Call for Evidence’ from 9th January to 13th February 2013, to hear from its members and from external organisations and experts. The Institution is asking a range of questions exploring the context, strategy, funding, management and lessons to be learnt for transport. The evidence will help inform ICE’s position and it will be followed up with interviews, workshops and further research as appropriate, with the aim to publish the findings in late June 2013.

The January 2013 edition of VisitBritain’s Foresight explores the results from a post-Olympics wave of the Anholt Nations Brand Index Survey, looking at how the world now rates Britain across a raft of key tourism attributes. Findings show that 63% of those who saw coverage of Britain hosting the Games agreed it had increased their interest in visiting for a holiday and that 75% think that there are lots of interesting places to visit outside London.
