Following an initial consultation last year, Londoners are being invited to comment on plans for new river crossings in the east and southeast of the Capital. The planned crossings have been designed to make the area more attractive to live and work in by reducing delays and making journey times more reliable. The proposals include: A new road tunnel at Silvertown connecting the Royal Docks and the Greenwich Peninsula. It would allow for traffic of all sizes including buses, and help reduce congestion caused by over-height vehicles trying to use the Blackwall Tunnel. A vehicle ferry at Gallions Reach, linking Beckton with Thamesmead, providing a better connection for road users. The ferry would take about 10 minutes to cross the river and could replace the 50-year-old Woolwich Ferry.
