The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat has released a report to support the Subsidiary Body for Implementation’s (SBI) annual monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the framework for capacity-building in developing countries. The report features sections on the overview of information reported by parties; capacity building activities under the Kyoto Protocol; and capacity building activities undertaken by UN organizations and other institutions. It contains information identified taking into account developing countries’ needs and priorities for capacity building, as well as examples of good practices collected from national communications.

A diverse group of high level representatives from all stakeholder groups gathered at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) to discuss a new initiative which aims to produce a systematic worldwide analysis of water issues. The Water Futures and Solutions: World Water Scenarios initiative will forge a broad institutional partnership bringing together the scientific community, governments, decision makers, as well as civil society, NGOs and private sector. This is one message to emerge from this report, presented by the UN, which documents initial findings from consultations around the world on the post-2015 Development Agenda.
Lakanal House verdicts

Following serious failings highlighted during the Lakanal House fire inquest, a number of life safety recommendations have been identified. The need for clearer guidance around the fire protection of materials added during building renovations was just one of the recommendations made last week by Coroner Frances Kirkham after the inquest on the fire at the Lakanal House block of flats in Camberwell, London.

This is the eighth session of the Steering Committee of the UNECE Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development. The session comprised two segments: (a) the general meeting of the Steering Committee for Education for Sustainable Development; and (b) a joint segment with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The general meeting of the Steering Committee for Education for Sustainable Development focused on the progress made and the experiences of countries in implementing the Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development since the seventh meeting, in particular with regard to advancing the three priority action areas. The Steering Committee also considered activities to be implemented until the ninth Steering Committee meeting, as well as how to promote ESD on the regional level after the third phase of implementation. The regional consultations jointly organized with UNESCO addressed the final assessment of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005–2014) and its follow-up.
Specification for information management for the capital/delivery phase of construction projects using building information modelling (PAS 1192-2:2013)

This Publically Available Specification (PAS) specifies requirements for achieving building information modelling (BIM) Level 2. The requirements within this PAS build on the existing code of practice for the collaborative production of architectural, engineering and construction information, defined within BS 1192:2007. PAS 1192-2 focuses specifically on project delivery, where the majority of graphical data, non-graphical data and documents, known collectively as the project information model (PIM), are accumulated from design and construction activities. The intended audience for this PAS includes organizations and individuals responsible for the procurement, design, construction, delivery, operation and maintenance of buildings and infrastructure assets.
