It argues that attempts to decentralise power, such as police and crime commissioners, elected mayors, city deals and regional assemblies all provide important lessons that have not yet been learned.

The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) has released a report showing that the world’s megacities, roughly defined as cities with a total population of more than 10 million, are fast expanding efforts to curb climate change, such as implementing tough energy efficiency standards for buildings. The report analyses mayoral powers and identifies major trends across sectors and geographies, demonstrating that cities have the power, the expertise, the political will and the resourcefulness to continue to take meaningful climate action.

The Stakeholder Forum has launched a new programme in partnership with CIVICUS, in collaboration with UN DESA and undertaken with the financial assistance of the European Union. The two year SD2015 programme will provide tools and opportunities for all stakeholders to participate in the global deliberations on and around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the wider post-2015 development agenda, through the following five focus areas: raise awareness; increase engagement; empower stakeholders; coordinate advocacy; and strengthen governance.

Monitoring and evaluation (M&E) has a critical role in informing and improving adaptation policies and activities. However, the inherent uncertainties of how the climate will change mean it is difficult to define, measure, and assess the achievements of an adaptation programme. Two guidance notes, from a series of three, are available online. Guidance note 1 identifies twelve challenges that make adaptation M&E difficult, and highlights strategies to address each. Guidance note 2 discusses how to identify appropriate indicators, and suggests ways to use indicators thoughtfully and well.

A report developed by the Grow Dublin Taskforce, representing tourism and business interests in the city, identifies events, including those with a business, sporting and cultural theme, and business tourism, as two of five sectors that offer the best potential for significant tourism growth in Dublin and the best return on investment. The report, while emphasising that tourism is important to Dublin in terms of revenue and jobs, finds that the capital is underperforming and has slipped behind its main city competitors in Europe.
