The health benefits to society from cycling outweigh negative impacts by up to a factor of 20, according to the final research report from the International Transport Forum Working Group on Cycling Safety. The report, published at a time when many cities are seeking to increase the share of cycling amidst concerns for safety, shows that the key to delivering overall benefits from cycling is creating a safe system through government policy and city action.

The newly released Policy Brochure from the Transport Research & Innovation Portal presents EU policy on transport employment and highlights the contribution of research in supporting policy development and implementation in meeting the challenges of retaining skilled workers and encouraging more and highly skilled people to join the transport workforce.

In 2015, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), adopted by the United Nations after the Millennium Declaration, are set to expire. The next set of global development goals, which are supposed to be even more environmentally focused, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), are currently under discussion at the UN and in multiple fora around the world.
