This review describes the book as the first study to look so closely at these and the extent of the power and influence wielded by architects in this process. The study covers Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, the UK and some former colonial territories in the form of 15 essays, each from a scholar in architecture and planning, edited by three of these authors.

Next steps to zero carbon homes: small sites exemption

The government recognises that achieving the zero carbon standard could be particularly challenging for small builders. Therefore, it announced earlier this year, that there would be an exemption from part of the zero carbon commitment for small sites. The purpose of this consultation paper is to explore how this proposed exemption might work and to inform further development of the policy. Comments are requested by 7 January 2015.

A conference, “Towards a Roadmap for Sustainable Cities in the MENA Region”, was held in Beirut, Lebanon on 4-5 November 2014, to debate these issues and share experiences.
