The goal of transforming one of the largest and most populous metropolis in the world in a green, safe and resilient space was one of the highlights during the term of Mr. Marcelo Ebrard as Head of Government of Mexico City between 2006 and 2012. With an area of less than 1 percent of the national territory, Mexico City and its surrounding metropolitan area have more than 22 million people. In 2010, Mexico City was acknowledged as one of the “role model cities” by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), in the context of the world campaign titled “Making Cities Resilient: My City is getting Ready!” With more than 30 years in the public sector, a very well-known champion of the world campaign and current President of the Global Network for Safer Cities, Mr. Ebrard discusses some of his achievements, challenges and personal vision on disaster risk reduction and on building resilience.
