Designing with data: Shaping our cities

This report provides a starting point to smart architecture and planning, but there is further work to be done to roll this approach out. Three recommendations are made for the  UK Government to take place making into the digital age, and to extend the economic, social and environmental benefits of big data to the spatial disciplines of planning and design. This paper identifies four main approaches to working with data for architects, urban designers and planners: using data to help designers meet user needs; experimentation and modelling using data; analysing data to improve local and national policy making and implementation; and using data to improve transparency to speed up development processes.
