The mission of the TIDE project is to enhance the broad transfer and take-up of 15 innovative urban transport and mobility measures throughout Europe and to make a visible contribution to establish them as mainstream measures. TIDE will focus on 15 innovative measures in five thematic clusters: financing models and pricing measures, non-motorised transport, network and traffic management to support traveller information, electric vehicles and public transport organisation. Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans will be a horizontal topic to integrate the cluster activities. Safety in public spaces is usually understood in terms of policing, i.e. safety from physical assault, video surveillance and the presence of police officers. But the USER URBACT project wants to go further and look at the feeling of insecurity that users can experience in public spaces, whether or not there are objective grounds for that feeling. How do we design public spaces in which users will not feel afraid? What uses should we support so that public spaces are conducive to socializing, and not a source of anxiety? The latest newsletter highlights developments in the project.

To inspire and support cities in Europe on their journey towards energy efficiency, the European Urban Knowledge Network’s Annual Publication this year focuses on energy efficiency in the built environment. The publication provides a complete overview of what is happening on all levels affecting local government. The creation of energy efficient cities requires a cross-sectoral approach, as well as innovative forms of governance and financing models. That is why this publication not only focuses on cities, but also provides in-depth analyses of activities at the European and national levels. Thereby, it delves into specific areas of interest, such as Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), social housing, cultural heritage and behaviour change. The publication contains analyses written by European experts and interviews with key stakeholders from both the public and the private sector who are eager to share their knowledge and experiences with other professionals in the field. At the same time, this booklet highlights several case studies which EUKN feels are of particular relevance to local government in Europe.
