UK Biodiversity Indicators in your Pocket 2013

Defra has published this document which reports on UK progress on biodiversity. Alongside this document, Defra has published A strategy for England’s wildlife and ecosystem services, biodiversity 2020 indicators: 2013 assessment,   providing a detailed statistical update of 24 indicators that give an overview of biodiversity in England, measuring progress in the delivery of goals and objectives outlined in Biodiversity 2020 published by the government in 2011. All of the 2013 and past biodiversity indicators for the UK are available on the Joint Nature Conservation Committee website.

The Landscape Institute has launched a position statement on landscape and public health. The publication of the position statement is just a first step in the landscape profession’s intention to work with public health professionals and with policy makers to create a larger number of healthy landscapes. The statement sets out the five principles of healthy places, and spells out in detail what each of those principles means and how to address them, and then uses a number of case studies to illustrate each principle in turn.
