The ENDURANCE project aims to build 25 national networks and an overarching European network organisation on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans. The main target groups are urban mobility professionals, cities and national authorities. The ENDURANCE networks will offer a training and policy exchange programme based on yearly national meetings in each country as well as on international meetings. The project is represented in 25 countries, and one objective is to motivate 250 cities to participate in the networking and to develop, improve and/or implement a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan.

Many projects demonstrate that renewable energy and bioclimatic architecture represent cost-effective and environmentally friendly ways to improve the living conditions of rural people. However, most of the projects face significant difficulties when it comes to mainstreaming the innovation. This manual, based on the experience of six projects in Asia, aims to provide practical guidance regarding how to design a scaling-up strategy for sustainable energy and building projects. It has been produced by the SAESUp (Sustainable Architecture & Energy Scaling Up) project, which is supported by the Building and Social Housing Foundation. (BSHF).

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) has published guidance which offers key insights into making the most of the opportunities that arise from refurbishments. The case for refurbishment for buildings has to be made on an individual basis, and the drivers that exist are many. This guidance aims to assist the understanding of the buildings and systems we may encounter and produce a common strategy in the analysis of options and solutions. Its aim is to maximise the opportunities presented when refurbishing non-domestic buildings. The document is available for purchase.

This difference between expected and realised energy performance has come to be known as the ‘performance gap’. There are two main reasons for this performance gap. The first is that the method of calculating energy use for the purposes of compliance does not take into account all the energy uses in a building. The second reason for the performance gap is related to site practice. This Technical Memorandum (TM) addresses the first reason. It provides building designers and owners with clear guidance on how to evaluate operational energy use more fully, and accurately, at the design stage. After a brief introduction, which explains the need for the guidance in more detail, it explains the importance of making an accurate estimate of the operating hours and likely occupancy of the building. It then sets out how the operational energy required for the building can be estimated. As well as covering lighting, heating, ventilation and cooling and provision of hot water, it also considers lifts and escalators, small power loads, catering, server rooms and other plant and equipment. This document is available for purchase.
