Business travel outlook for Western Europe

The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) has announced the results of its second GBTA BTI™ Outlook – Western Europe report, a semi-annual analysis of the five most critical business travel markets in Europe: Germany, the UK, France, Italy and Spain. These five markets together form the lion’s share of business travel in Europe, nearly 70%, and provide a barometer for the health of the entire European business travel market. The report, sponsored by Visa Inc., includes the GBTA BTI™, an index of business travel spending that distills market performance over a period of time.

This Legal Update from DLA Piper provides a snapshot of the state of play of renewable energy in the Asia-Pacific, focusing specifically on trends in Japan, the Republic of Korea and the Philippines where there has been recent and remarkable progress. The update discusses India and China as emerging superpowers turning to renewable energy to meet energy security issues. Despite its location outside the Asia Pacific, the paper also considers South Africa which has endured a power crisis of its own since 2007.

The goal of transforming one of the largest and most populous metropolis in the world in a green, safe and resilient space was one of the highlights during the term of Mr. Marcelo Ebrard as Head of Government of Mexico City between 2006 and 2012. With an area of less than 1 percent of the national territory, Mexico City and its surrounding metropolitan area have more than 22 million people. In 2010, Mexico City was acknowledged as one of the “role model cities” by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), in the context of the world campaign titled “Making Cities Resilient: My City is getting Ready!” With more than 30 years in the public sector, a very well-known champion of the world campaign and current President of the Global Network for Safer Cities, Mr. Ebrard discusses some of his achievements, challenges and personal vision on disaster risk reduction and on building resilience.

The Climate & Development Knowledge Nnetwork (CDKN) has published a new Working Paper on the possibilities for building consensus within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This is one of several CDKN activities to encourage negotiators to share their experience of working toward consensus among the Parties. The paper is intended to prompt further discussion around the negotiation and consensus-building process, and is part of CDKN’s work to amplify the voices of poor and most climate-vulnerable countries within the international negotiations.
