The Office of Rail Regulation has published a statement which sets the framework for financing and delivering improvements in the infrastructure and operation of Britain’s railway during the period 2014-2019.

This research shows that work can be a central part of the journey away from homelessness: building self-esteem, enabling financial independence and bringing a sense of meaning and possibility to people’s lives. However, only around two to 14% of people living in homelessness accommodation work. This research aimed to explore how more homeless people can be supported to move into and stay in work, through in-depth interviews with 50 homeless people over up to their first year after starting a new job.

The Public Procurement of Innovation (PPI) Platform has been launched. The platform is a brand new system that aims to make public procurement of innovation a wide-spread reality in Europe. The Platform has been developed to help public authorities, procurers, policy makers, researchers and other stakeholders harness the power of PPI.
London Legacy Development Corporation: Community Infrastructure Levy

The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) has begun consulting on its preliminary draft charging schedule for its Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), which also proposes charges of £100 per square metre for hotels, student accommodation, and for “convenience supermarkets”, superstores, and retail warehouses above 280 square metres. A background report, prepared by BNP Paribas, tests the ability of a range of development types throughout the LLDC to yield contributions to infrastructure requirements through the CIL.

Bill Bordass, who in 1984 up William Bordass Associates, which studies the technical and environmental performance of new, existing and historic buildings, presented the Inaugural George Henderson Memorial Lecture at the UCL Energy Institute. He considered why the quest for more sustainable, lower-energy buildings seems to be turning into a complicated, expensive and bureaucratic obstacle race; and what we might do to change this. As one of the UK’s leading buildings performance evaluation experts, he shared his extensive experience to identify what works and what needs attention.
