Coastal zones are the highest priority sector in Bangladesh’s National Adaptation Program of Action (NAPA) due to the importance of the economic resources being affected; the urgency, severity and certainty of severe climate change impacts, and because coastal areas comprise 32% of the country’s land space, with over 35 million people (1/4 of the population) living just 1m above sea level. Reforming business rates would be the single most important step towards reviving high streets and boosting retail jobs across the country, according to a new report from the British Retail Consortium (BRC). The BRC is working closely with stakeholders to investigate appropriate reforms, which would be hugely beneficial to local communities and the wider UK economy.
