World Travel Market has surveyed its key exhibitors and senior Meridian Club buyers to discover the central issues for the industry and the topics of conversations on the exhibition floor across the four days of WTM 2012 (5 – 8 November). The findings form the backbone for the World Travel Market 2012 Industry Report. They cover a range of issues from sports tourism and the 2012 Olympics, taxation, emerging travel and tourism markets and aviation capacity. These results are put into context by comparison with a survey of 1,001 UK 2012 holidaymakers (all of whom took a seven-day summer holiday overseas or in the UK in 2012) revealing their booking and holidaying habits.

This speech was made by Tony Tyler, the Director General and CEO of IATA,  at the Arab Air Carriers Organization (AACO) Annual General Meeting, held on 5-7 November 2012. He outlined five areas in which opportunities exist to further develop aviation in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to benefit the region’s economies. Topics covered included safety; aviation as a catalyst for growth; air navigation; environment; and new distribution capability.

London’s population is growing and the capital needs to build around 36,000 new homes a year just to keep pace with the number of new households. This NLA exhibition looks at how well the capital is keeping up with its targets, who is delivering new homes, the funding and policy context, exemplar projects, and new and imaginative ideas for designing and delivering new homes for London.  The exhibition, running from 31 October – 21 December 2012, takes place at NLA’s galleries at The Building Centre in WC1 and is accompanied by a publication, conference and talks, addressing the issues affecting the design and delivery of London’s homes.

Writing an effective tenancy strategy

The Localism Act requires councils, by 15 January 2013, to adopt a tenancy strategy, to which local social housing providers must have regard. The practice note sets out some advice on the sort of questions to ask and options to consider in developing a tenancy strategy. It also considers how tenancy strategies relate to other housing reforms, and the wider picture of shaping the housing landscape.

Shaping and improving your private rented sector

This practice note considers the importance of the private rented sector to councils, and sets out how you can get to grip with your local market. It can also elect members to use their leadership role in shaping and improving the private rented sector.

Developed by the British Constructional Steel Association (BCSA), Tata Steel and the Steel Construction Institute (SCI), the site hosts downloadable editions of key documents, as well as featuring a range of discussion topics and useful links.
