Cities exchanging on local energy leadership (CASCADE): Toolkit

A new toolkit produced by the EU project CASCADE, which ran for three years and concluded in April 2014, aims to offer inspiration and guidance to city experts and decision makers on how to improve the implementation of climate change and energy policies in their cities. The project involved networking and peer-to-peer learning on local energy leadership across 19 European countries, and focused on three main themes: energy efficiency in buildings and districts; renewable energy sources and distributed energy generation; and energy in urban transport. The toolkit consists of a library of peer-to-peer learning tools and a collection of CASCADE good practices.

This guidance is aimed at homeowners and those managing or renting historic or older domestic buildings who may need to commission an Energy Performance Certificate or who have received one for an older property that has been purchased or rented. Details are provided on the type of information included in an EPC, how it is calculated and its limitations as an assessment method when applied to older buildings. The guidance also covers the issues to be taken into account when commissioning an EPC and considering its recommendations.

Coastal habitats 2100: The East coast response to tidal surges

The Environment Agency (EA) is requesting feedback on recommendations listed in the final workshop report from the East Coast Tidal Surge workshop. A number of key recommendations were provided to include hosting regular partnership meetings, providing updated guidance on coastal adaptation and flooding response, and to invest in data capture and future research. The EA would appreciate feedback on which recommendations are agreed with and should be taken forward by EA or others, less important or missing; and whether your organisation would like to participate in further meetings.

Framework and tools for local flood risk assessment

A new framework to help local authorities to better understand and manage flood risk in their area. The framework recognises new statutory responsibilities for flood and coastal risk management in England and Wales and supports robust, consistent risk assessment across different spatial scales as part of Surface Water Management Plans, Local Flood Risk Management Strategies and Flood Risk Regulations related studies. A prototype tool has been developed to show how the framework and methods can be delivered.
