Application of the Airport Charges Directive

This report takes stock of EU Member States’ implementation of the airport charges directive, which was adopted at EU level in 2009 and became applicable in 2011. The directive sets out a number of principles on airport charges to be followed by the main airport in each Member State and all airports handling more than 5 million passengers per year and provides for the setting up of independent bodies for the monitoring of its application.

Cities are growing rapidly, and their transit systems need to keep up. As the world’s urban population soars from 3.4 to 6.4 billion between now and 2050, cities must invest in high quality public transit to create sustainable, economically healthy, and livable cities. A new study released by the Institution for Transportation & Development Policy evaluates nine key countries (Brazil, China, Colombia, France, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa and USA) and if their investment in urban mass transit has kept pace with the needs of their growing populations.

A new report from a group of housing associations has revealed that 12 months after its introduction, the Government’s controversial Bedroom Tax, has failed to ease under-occupancy in social housing. The report from six housing associations is the first to analyse a complete year’s data on the impact the Bedroom Tax has had on their tenants.
