O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects won the LSE international architectural competition for the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre in June 2009. On 16 June 2014, with the building completed and the Student Centre thriving in use, Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey discussed the ideas behind their architectural design. The Royal Institution of British Architects helps to develop and apply the research-based knowledge of RIBA members, chartered practices and schools of architecture in order to promote links between practice and academia, and to position the RIBA as a trusted research facilitator for architecture and the related built environment professions. The primary research theme for 2014 is ‘Ageing and the built environment’. The primary research theme for 2015 will be ‘Design quality and performance’.
