New Revit plug-in helps calculate building life-cycle impact

The new tool aims to help architects with whole-building life cycle assessment (LCA) calculations for LEED v4 right along with their BIM process. Tally—a new tool that allows designers to track environmental impacts in real time while creating models in the popular building information modeling (BIM) software Revit. Created by KieranTimberlake, PE International, and Autodesk (developer of Revit), the tool is currently being offered as a free public beta release. Video tutorials are also available.

BIM4FM: Overview of survey results

RICS and other institutes and trade associations representing the built environment, have joined together to form the BIM4FM group, supported by the Cabinet Office Government Property Unit. Working in collaboration, the group’s purpose is to champion facilities management’s involvement with Building Information Modelling (BIM) projects. The BIM4FM group carried out a survey in early summer 2013 to establish the current levels of awareness on BIM among end users, owners and occupiers.

CODEBIM: Collaborative Design Education using BIM

This project aims to examine whether collaborative design education can be improved using building information modelling (BIM) technologies; how best to adapt these technologies to existing Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) courses; and to develop new curriculum for collaborative building design courses in a variety of delivery modes. The project is being carried out in collaboration with UniSA, UTS and the University of Newcastle.

Building Products staged a Round Table of experts, a multi-disciplinary collaboration between manufacturer, architect, contractor, consultant and client. The meeting saw discussion of the ‘real world’ needs of the industry, and showed that many issues remain to be resolved.
