This conference, with its theme “Beyond Green – A New Paradigm”, aimed to demonstrate that consulting engineers have played a major and important role in society by ensuring the development and implementation of sustainable solutions to global challenges that go well beyond the conventional “green” approach. The event aimed to help identify how the consulting engineering industry can continue to develop ways of addressing the future issues that will face us all. Presentations are available online.

The following TV programmes have recently been added to NBS TV:
JCT 2011 Contracts: an overview
A new suite of JCT Contracts, JCT Contracts Edition 2011, have just been released in line with the ‘The Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009’ and will apply, in England, from 1 October 2011. The Construction Act 2009 has already been covered in a previous programme in this series and so this programme will look, in some detail, at the Contracts themselves.
The National Planning Policy Framework
The new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) finally came into force in England on 27 March 2012 following a high profile battle between pro-development stakeholders and environmental campaigners. This programme looks at the NPPF and its likely impact.
What is Integrated Project Insurance?
A key aim of the Government’s new Construction Strategy is a push for truly collaborative project procurement; however project insurance remains one of the most potentially divisive issues facing the project team. This programme examines a possible solution called Integrated Project Insurance or IPI where one policy covers the entire scheme.

Susdrain is a new resource that provides a range of free resources for those involved in delivering sustainable drainage systems (SuDS). SuDS help to manage flood risk and water quality and provide a range of amenity benefits that create great places to live, work and play. Susdrain provides up-to-date guidance, information, case studies, videos and discussion forums that help to underpin the planning, design, approval, construction and maintenance of SuDS, recognising its role in improved water management.

Since 2008, Be2camp social media advocates have been helping the architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) and related industries think about and deploy Web 2.0 tools and techniques. Winners of the 2012 Be2camp awards were announced on 26 September 2012, including best AEC collaboration application; best AEC community, network or application; best AEC social media blog; best AEC use of Twitter; best use of Web 2.0 for construction products.

This guide, published by Wellington City Council, explains the things that can be done to make a house in New Zealand more resilient to earthquakes. It describes the stresses that earthquakes place on houses, and some risk factors that might make a house more or less susceptible to damage. It also gives practical guidance on things a residential property owner can do to his house that may reduce the risk of damage in an earthquake.

The website brings together for the first time all the steel design and construction information available from the British Constructional Steelwork Association, Tata Steel and the Steel Construction Institute.
