Government construction pipeline update

In fulfilling the commitments made in the Plan for Growth at Budget 2011 the Government has updated the construction pipeline last published in November 2011 alongside the National Infrastructure Plan and the infrastructure investment pipeline. The Government funded construction pipeline includes over 600 projects and programmes, around £40 billion of investment over 4 years to 2014/15 (excluding rail and other regulated and private sector infrastructure investment).

The Modern Built Environment Knowledge Transfer Network ran this industry engagement workshop with the National Refurbishment Centre. More than 100 members of the retrofit community gathered at a special workshop ahead of a £10million programme on retrofit solutions for the non-domestic buildings. The programme will help showcase innovative technologies and processes that can be used to make significant energy savings in existing buildings such as schools, shops, offices and hotels.  Presentations from this workshop are now available. Please note you must be a member of this network to view the outputs.

BREEAM domestic refurbishment

The BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment assessment manual is due to be released on 11th June 2012 following the incorporation of peer review comments from independent experts into the scheme document and final approval from the BRE Global Governing Body. Providing a rating of Pass to Outstanding, BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment will evaluate the environmental credentials of refurbishment projects based upon BREEAM’s UKAS accredited certification standards already applied to over 200,000 buildings around the world. Developed as a tool for designers, financiers, policy makers, developers, planning authorities and landlords, BREEAM Domestic Refurbishment will give confidence that housing refurbishment meets best environmental practice by saving carbon, water and waste, being adaptable to climate change and providing a healthy indoor environment for occupants.
