Westminster City Council has published a response to an independent report into the prime residential property market in central London. The report provides the first detailed analysis of London’s ‘prime and super prime’ residential market and the impacts it has on housing in the capital.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England has launched a campaign in order to find suitable brownfield sites for housing in towns and cities. Anyone can nominate brownfield sites in their area that could be suitable for housing development in the future. All that is required is an image of the site (as simple as a quick snap on your smartphone) and an address of the site including the postcode and street address.
Housing transfer manual: period to 31 March 2016

This guidance sets out how local authorities and tenant groups can apply to transfer local authority housing to a different landlord. As part of this, local authorities and tenant groups can apply for funding towards writing off debt, with up to £100 million available in 2015 to 2016.

Commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), and carried out by staff at the Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research and Ipsos Mori, this interim report presents early findings from the evaluation of the removal of the Spare Room Subsidy. The DWP has also published a guide which provides ideas and good practice for all local authorities on the Removal of the Spare Room Subsidy. This is available here.

The government has published a consultation document containing proposals which would require councils to publish the most recent and subsequent valuations of their social housing stock every year. The consultation also calls for evidence on what local authorities are already doing to use their public assets to deliver more homes. Comments are requested by 8 August 2014.

Over the past six months, ILC-UK and Age UK have worked together with academics and policy-informers to understand whether our communities are Ready for Ageing. This project took a futures perspective, and focused on understanding the evidence about how communities need to adapt to an ageing society.

This paper from the Smith Institute looks at how using surplus NHS land to build supported housing can help meet demand and reduce the costs of care. It makes the case for thinking differently about cost savings in the NHS, notably in regard to alternative provision of supported housing through innovative partnerships between housing associations and NHS trusts. In particular, the paper aims to quantify possible future savings that can be made based on existing land disposal programmes.
