Land Development and Disposal Plan 2012/13

The Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has updated its Land Development and Disposal Plan, setting out how the Agency will use its land to accelerate economic activity, the development of homes and employment floorspace, and construction activity in support of local priorities. This document sets out: a summary of the HCA’s landholdings, including key changes during 2011/12 with the transfer of landholdings to the HCA from the Regional Development Agencies and from the HCA to the Greater London Authority; the principles by which the Agency disposes of its landholdings; and an overview of the landholdings that the Agency plans to bring forward for development or to dispose of over the 2012/13 financial year, and an indication of the disposal pipeline for remainder of the Spending Review period.

Affordable capital? Housing in London

This report forms part of a major Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) research series exploring the key challenges and opportunities for housing in England over the coming decade. The present report focuses on housing in London and specifically explores how we might address the imbalances which exist in both the purchase and rental housing markets in the capital in the immediate future as well as the longer term. The study also explores why, when it comes to housing, London is unique, and seeks to identify and address key issues of affordability of housing in the wake of the London mayoral election 2012.

Financing of new housing supply

The Government must employ a basket of measures, covering all tenures of housing, if sufficient finance is ever to be available to tackle the country’s housing crisis, according to the findings of an inquiry into the financing of new housing supply by the House of Commons Communities and Local Government Select Committee.  This volume contains the report, together with formal minutes, oral and written evidence. Nothing gained by overcrowding

This publication marks the centenary of the publication in 1912 of Raymond Unwin’s pamphlet Nothing Gained by Overcrowding! and is part of a resurgence of interest in one of the most successful stories in Britain’s social and architectural history, the Garden City movement. This re-examination of Unwin’s explanation of ‘how the Garden City type of development may benefit both owner and occupier’ is published as the TCPA embarks on a campaign to remake the case for comprehensively planned new communities as part of the solution to the chronic housing crisis in England.

Procurement processes in the housing sector are ‘onerous and costly’, thanks to overzealous interpretations of European Union procurement rules, according to a report published by trade body The Housing Forum.  The report recommends rationalising regulations into three parts: planning, building and housing standards, and doing away with other regulatory systems such as building for life and the mayor of London’s housing design standards.
