Tall towers 2012: London’s high-rise residential developments

A new report on tall residential and mixed-use towers in London, released by Knight Frank, EC Harris and Barton Willmore, shows how a new wave of  residential towers are set to re-define London’s skyline. It examines the unique planning, construction and funding challenges inherent in building tower schemes, including the additional costs of building ‘up’, but also reveals that there can be a clear cost versus value benefit of building higher in certain locations across London’s largely low-rise skyline when the tower scheme is built to the correct specifications.

Crossrail could help create £5.5 billion in added value to residential and commercial real estate along its route between 2012 and 2021 according to new research for Crossrail carried out by GVA, the UK’s largest independent commercial property consultant. The report illustrates how Crossrail will have a marked impact on a number of central London and suburban locations along and around the Crossrail route where the new railway will help stimulate investment in commercial activities, retail and housing.  The report findings unveil which areas these are, and what the scale of those changes is likely to be.

The New West End Company was established over a decade ago as Europe’s largest retail led Business Improvement District (BID), to champion the interests of over 600 retailers, property owners and other businesses in Bond Street, Oxford Street, Regent Street and their connecting streets. The aim was to bring about change in an area that represents the largest concentration of retail and property estates in the world. The Company has launched a new five year business plan which will commence on 1 April 2013.
