Honest Buildings Network

The Honest Buildings real estate network, a USA-based online data sharing portal, was officially launched in the UK on 27 February 2013. BRE Global, which has partnered with Honest Buildings to bring greater transparency to UK commercial real estate, will display environmental performance details of thousands of BREEAM certified buildings on the network. Honest Buildings entered the UK market last year and already provides information on 9,500 commercial properties. The site provides details of building information, solution providers and partnering opportunities, as well as a showcase for buildings and projects.

This research, published by the RICS, seriously questions the effectiveness of empty property rates (EPR) in reducing the prevalence of empty commercial and industrial properties. It argues that they have in fact restricted economic growth. The report sets out the findings of an online questionnaire of RICS members to find their views on the impact of EPR on the commercial and industrial property sectors. Open for business: Empty shops on London’s high streets

A report from the London Assembly’s Economic Committee sets out a package of emergency and longer term measures to break the vicious cycle on the high street which has led to an increase in empty shops across the capital. It claims that outer London high streets are particularly struggling, predominantly because of tough economic conditions and because people increasingly shop at out-of-town centres and online.
