Plans to extend the Northern line to Nine Elms and Battersea

Feedback is requested on Transport for London’s proposals to extend the Northern line to Nine Elms and Battersea, as part of wider plans to regenerate the Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea area. The proposals include: extension of the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line from Kennington to Battersea via Nine Elms; new stations at Nine Elms and Battersea; two permanent shafts at Kennington Green and Kennington Park to provide ventilation, cooling and emergency access if required; and two temporary shafts to enable works to stabilise the ground in preparation for the new tunnels to be built. Comments are requested by 16 December 2012.

Developed by Liverpool Vision, in conjunction with a team of regeneration experts led by Drivers Jonas Deloitte, the Liverpool City Centre Strategic Investment Framework outlines developments and improvements to key business and residential districts in the city centre. The plans follow in the footsteps of the successful City Centre Strategic Regeneration Framework (SRF), launched in 2001 and are a result of a major consultation exercise with Liverpool’s business community and residents.

The overall purpose of the State of the Market Report is to provide CL:AIRE Members with market intelligence, statistics and context to strengthen their business and to provide them with visibility and promotion as supportive voices of CL:AIRE’s principles. The report covers information such as the exact types of contaminated land remediation practices adopted in the last two years, company permit and deployment types, company insurance coverage and skills/qualifications categorised by individuals’ competencies. This material has now been made available to a wider audience.
The “French District sustainable urban neighbourhood in Tubigen, Germany

Tubingen’s “French district”, in German “Französisches Viertel“, is an urban brownfield development project. A 60-hectare military wasteland was converted into a dense urban neighbourhood with mixed urban functions. In a continuing development process, a new living space for 6,000 inhabitants and 2,500 jobs were created. An imaginative urban design enables the combination of living, supply, commerce and light forms of industry. Further on, the neighbourhood is characterised by low energy housing and an innovative mobility concept. Its main policy ideas are to generate fewer trips, shorten their distances and shift traffic to efficient modes of transportation.

In particular, two of the most resourced and extensively evaluated policies of recent urban and regional policy: the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) and the New Deal for Communities (NDCs). The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee has published a report on its inquiry into the Regional Growth Fund. The Government established the Regional Growth Fund in June 2010 to support projects with the potential to deliver economic growth and additional, sustainable private-sector jobs, particularly in areas that rely more on the public sector for employment. £1.4 billion was allocated for competing projects and programmes in two bidding rounds during 2011.

The aim of the plan is to build a competitive economy with increased prosperity for the city and region in ways which ensure that the opportunities and benefits from regeneration are targeted towards the most deprived groups to build prosperity and tackle disadvantage.
