This report, published by the European Court of Auditors, assessed the implementation and the effectiveness of public urban transport projects co-financed by EU structural funds, and whether they meet user needs and they achieve their objectives in terms of utilisation. It reveals that two thirds of urban transport projects co-financed by EU structural funds are underutilised.  Weaknesses in project design and inadequate mobility policy were two of the main contributory factors identified.

In Spring 2013, Future of London began looking at transport planning in London, and at how it can adapt to changes in demographics and urban form, and influence sustainable travel choices. In partnership with Transport for London, Future for London ran a three-part seminar series ‘London’s Transport Network: Adaptation and evolution’, that examined adapting to changing demographics, challenging travel behaviours and shaping the road network. This anthology builds on the seminars, with new contributions from speakers and other engaged professionals.

As Gatwick unveils a campaign, Gatwick Obviously,- to step up its case for expansion, emerging findings from new research that will be submitted to the Airports Commission in May 2014 show that with a second runway at Gatwick there would be more connections to more destinations than with a third runway at Heathrow. Work led by Sir Terry Farrell also shows how expansion at Gatwick would provide better balanced growth for London, the region and the UK.

Bus registration: Competition Commission recommendations

The government is seeking views on its preferred approach to implementing the Competition Commission’s recommendations relating to the registration of local bus services. The remedies aim to improve competition in the bus market.
