Week 1:
13/10/2016
14:00 – 17:00
We were split into two groups, then everybody in my group took on their individual role. I became ‘Head of Music’ and Andrea ‘Assistant Head of Music’. My group then decided upon a Gospel radio station for our show. Next, we all agreed that we would each listen to a small variety of Gospel stations; this would eventually help us with choosing ours; some of these stations included were UCB Gospel, Gospel Radio and Premier Gospel. I also set up a group chat on Whatsapp and Facebook to help organise anything.
Week 2:
17/10/2016
12:30 – 13:30
Group meeting to decide our specific station and by majority vote we chose Premier Gospel. We felt more attracted to this station than to other Gospel stations because of the style of Gospel it produces, being more urban contemporary and modern. We also directed the focus for each person during the following week, Andrea and I had to start listening to Premier Gospels current playlist and begin collecting songs.
20/10/2016
10:00 – 17:00
I learnt how to correctly schedule songs into the clock within Myriad, ensuring that I included all the necessary information that is needed for PRS and learnt how to create hooks, intro and extro points within songs. Because the workload became more intense James decided to set up a Trello account for us all. This allowed my group to set deadlines and interactively communicate ideas, we still use the social chats but now only as a quick way to talk.
Week 3:
24/10/2016
12:30 – 13:30
Andrea and I went online to the Premier Gospel website and listened live to their current playlist throughout that specific hour, to give ourselves idea’s for any artists or songs we may use on our show. Premier Gospel uses a variety of different shows to play out certain eras of Gospel music, rather than multiple era’s of Gospel music during one show. Premier Gospel use this method of delivery for their stations music because they try to appeal to different age groups throughout certain times of the day depending on who they think their audience will be during that specific time, to attract the largest audience possible at all times.
27/10/2016
13:00 – 17:00
Group meeting so we could all provide our latest work and to discuss our shows name, after much debate and by majority vote we decided Blessed and finally to apply focus for everyone during the following week. For Andrea and I this involved creating a draft music policy, which will help to guide us when creating a playlist of 50 songs (roughly 25 songs each). This meant that myself and Andrea had to continue listening to a variety of different shows from Premier Gospel so we could expand on our current playlist, thereby that afternoon we started listening to ‘The Gospel Selection’ from 14:00 until 15:00. And we needed to check out music policies from a variety of different stations that played music within a similar field to our own; so we could familiarize ourselves with what we needed to included within our own policy; therefore we read music policies from stations such as Premier Gospel, UCB Gospel, Gospel Radio, BBC Radio 1, Capital Radio and Kiss.
Week 4:
01/11/2016
12:00 – 15:00
I Listened to ‘The Sound of Gospel’ to help think of music that would fit into each of our four categories (A, B, C and Gold). Premier Gospel produces a lot more songs that are contemporary, uplifting and motivational, rather than the traditional ‘a Capella’ form of Gospel music. The positive message these songs are portraying is the reason why these songs are being played on the station, each specific track will have some unique; if only little; relation to Gospel music traditions. This style of Gospel music is played more regularly on the station because Premier Gospel want to attract a younger audience.
02/11/2016
19:00 – 21:00
I Listened to ‘Premier Gospel Presents’ as this show plays the latest in Gospel music, which helped me when choosing songs for our A and B categories.
03/11/2016
13:00 – 14:00
I listened to ‘Gospel Classics’ as I felt this particular show would give me extra variety of choice when collecting songs for our Gold category.
Week 5:
07/11/2016
12:30 – 13:00
Group meeting to share idea’s and catch up on each others progress. Andrea and I played a few songs to the group and together we discussed in detail our music policy to help really define ours. From here James set individual tasks for us to complete by Thursday, for myself and Andrea this meant that we needed to clarify what our music policy was and to ensure we had at least 50 songs collected between us.
10/11/2016
13:00 – 14:00
Deadline day for our draft music policy and my group had a playlist meeting, Andrea and I presented the team with the 50 songs that we had collected. We listened to every single track and assigned the ones we decided to keep into each of our four categories, and we decided upon exactly what our music policy was going to be for our show. However we all agreed that the playlist and music policy can still be slightly altered if it is beneficial. Andrea and I went away knowing we must collect more songs ensuring the playlist stays updated, which coincides with helping to really define our policy.
Week 6:
14/11/2016
12:30 – 13:30
Group meeting to catch up on progress and to set new deadlines. Mine and Andrea’s tasks for the week were to start thinking about ideas for artists to use as a music feature. And to continue listening to the station around the same time we are going to be broadcasting our show (11:00 – 13:00), to see what audience we think will be listening to the station at that time, so we can adjust our music and policy accordingly.
15/11/2016
10:00 – 13:00
I again listened to the show called ‘The Sound of Gospel Music’ to see the variation in music from the previous show, this also gave me a better understanding of what artists and songs Premier Gospel play regularly and helped me to find more songs for our C category.
17/11/2016
10:00 – 17:00
Andrea and I collected our whole playlist together as WAV files, and we also found two new tracks that we added. Unfortunately as we were saving the songs onto Myriad it crashed, and we only managed to save a total of about ten songs. This meant we had to re-download the files that ended up not saving the next day, so that we could start putting intro and extro points on each of our tracks right away.
18/11/2016
10:00 – 17:00
Myself and Andrea correctly uploaded each track onto myriad and created both intro and extro points. We also started providing the copyright details for each track so we could submit the songs to PRS.
Week 7 :
21/11/2016
11:30 – 13:00
We continued to add in all the copyright details and write up our music feature into depth. I also clamped down on our music policy to ensure it fit our current playlist.
24/11/2016
10:00 – 17:00
I added the last bits of information to the music feature I wanted to use, and Andrea did the same. This meant that we had to draft it up as an article and then pass it onto Tommy so he could do the final tweaks if it was eventually used. I then tried contacting artists Zoe Grace and Andrea tried contacting artist Chance The Rapper via email. We asked them both if they would be willing to either give an interview by phone, or even possibly join us for the outside broadcast. My group also decided to run through our first pilot show before next week’s assessed pilot show.
Week 8 :
28/11/2016
17:30 – 19:30
I took some pictures of Beth as she presented the news during our second pilot show before the assessed pilot show on Thursday.
30/11/2016
16:00 – 18:00
Myself and Andrea went onto the internet and found out information about each artist from our current playlist. We gathered these notes for Molly and Curtis so that they can mention an interesting fact about an artist or song whilst live on air.
01/12/2016
09:30 – 13:30
ASSESSED PILOT (11:00 – 13:00). I helped set up the outside broadcast room with Matt. At the end of the show each particular area was given critical feedback. Andrea and I were told that we needed to structure our tracks into a different arrangement so that the songs flowed better. And we needed to consider losing a few songs and replacing them with better tracks.
02/12/2016
14:00 – 16:30
Myself, Andrea, Curtis, James and Tommy (via Skype) met up to discuss various issues flagged up during the pilot. When the studios became free we decided to make a new clock for next week’s official show. After this was done, James asked myself and Andrea to find a new artist that we could feature on our show because unfortunately Zoe Grace and Chance The Rapper never got back to us. And he asked us to edit the notes of the artist’s we already had and to find out new information about the artists and songs we added to our show that day.
03/12/2016
14:00 – 16:00
Myself and Andrea decided to split the tasks. I re-edited the artist’s notes that we decided to keep and added the new information I found on the recently added artists and songs. Whilst Andrea searched for a new artist to use as a music feature.
04/12/2016
Andrea quickly found and communicated with a gospel artist named Volney Morgan, they agreed Thursday morning as the day Andrea would conduct the interview.
Week 9 :
06/12/2016
17:30 – 19:30
My group did one last pilot show before the assessed show on Thursday. Each person individually made sure they had done their assigned task before this final pilot, so that we could ensure the best possible run through for Thursday. Only a small amount of extra content would be added after this point e.g. the Mr Vegas drop and the Volney Morgan interview clip.
07/12/2016
17:00 – 17:30
I provided my voice for two adverts, however the adverts were cut from the show or they were altered and therefore my voice did not get used.
08/12/2016
09:30 – 13:30
OFFICIAL SHOW (11:00 – 13:00). Andrea recorded the interview with Volney Morgan at 09:00, this allowed her enough time to edit the recorded interview before the show went live and to find out all the necessary information about him to include within the online content. During the show wherever somebody’s original role was not busy amidst the actual live broadcast, James assigned them a new position in order to lend hand. In my case I helped set up the outside broadcast room with Matt, I also completed the ‘Music Reporting Form’, as Lucy was occupied during the show and she had been away the previous week and was unable to complete it herself.
