Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professorships – Call for Expressions of Interest

The University is keen to consider eligible applications from outstanding international researchers not currently working in the United Kingdom, to bring their research and teaching experience to the UK and to advance our goals through a professorship with the university. The University of Westminster has a proud tradition of global collaboration. We ranked 28th in the world for International Outlook in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, and are committed to engaging with world-class, internationally recognised scholars.

The Leverhulme Trust Visiting Professorships may last for between 3 and 12 months, and tenures of 6 months or more can be spread over 2 or more visits.

We encourage you to talk to your leading international colleagues about putting in an expression of interest at Westminster. As there are likely to be more applications than the University can support, to apply, eligible applicants for this scheme must first submit an Expression of Interest to the University, via this proforma, describing their proposed programme of activities and why they have selected the University of Westminster as their host institution. Successful candidates will be supported by Westminster through the Leverhulme Trust application process.

Applications will be considered in all subject areas except:

  • studies of disease, illness and disabilities in humans and animals
  • research that is intended to inform clinical practice or the development of medical applications

The criteria for selection are:

  • the academic standing and achievements of the visitors in terms of their research and/or teaching
  • their potential for making a substantial contribution to skills in the host institution
  • the specific and systematic nature of the proposed programme while in the UK
  • fit with UoW research strengths and strategy

Successful candidates will need to demonstrate in their CV a clear research trajectory and international standing in their field.

All applicants will need to identify a University of Westminster supporter prior to submitting their application and should discuss the proposal with them. We will not be able to consider an application submitted without a supporter.

Before preparing an application, we recommend that you check the Leverhulme Trust Guidance Notes, which you can download below, for guidance on how the funder reviews and evaluates Professorship applications.
