Research England have sent a letter to all universities announcing that the Research Excellence Framework for 2021 will be delayed until further notice, and that the original submission deadline of 27 November 2020 will no longer apply. A new deadline for submissions will be announced at least eight months in advance to give institutions time to prepare, once the full impact of the current situation on universities has become clearer.
- For the moment, the staff census date of 31 July 2020 remains unchanged
- The REF team have indicated that they are now “working on the adapted details of the framework,” and will launch a light-touch consultation on this in the future. But full allowance will be made for the impact of the coronavirus on preparations for the exercise.
Members of the REF team at Westminster, including UoA Leads, are now working remotely. If you have any questions, please contact colleagues as normal, by email or via Microsoft Teams.
The Research Office will continue to update colleagues as further information on REF2021 becomes available.
