Sadiq Khan teased on Twitter for suggesting London could opt out of Brexit.

The Mayor of London has warned of “huge ramifications” if Northern Ireland receive some form of special relationship within the EU after Brexit – which could include being able to remain in the Single Market and Customs Union.

The UK and EU have failed to reach an agreement within the first round of Brexit negotiations – including whether a “hard boarder” according to the BBC will return between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

Sadiq Khan has suggested in the past that he would fight to see London granted a ‘special status’ in the European Union as “Londoners overwhelmingly voted to remain.”

London was the only English city that voted to remain in the EU on June 23rd 2016. Across the country 71% of 18-24 year olds also voted remain according to a YouGov survey.

Mr Khan told BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme: “ I think London is different to the rest of the country. Why? Because we are the only region to vote to remain in the EU. Why? Because not only do we need immigration, but we want it.”
