Five ways to welcome Sex and the City’s Sam to her new city
The countdown has begun and while we all free our upcoming Thursdays and get our cosmopolitans ready to be drunk in the sweet company of Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte, one question has finally been answered: What happened to Samantha Jones?
With the release date being just a day away we are ready to catch up with our favourite New Yorkers and find out what they’ve been up to since we last saw them in Abu Dhabi in 2010. Yet, as sadly anticipated by Kim Cattrall herself, Samantha Jones will not be making an appearance in the SATC reboot.
The actress who played the character who arguably put the Sex in Sex and The City turned down the role, leaving the future of the iconic Sex symbol to our imagination. While our minds were running wild among speculations of our favourite Femme Fatale’s death or replacement, an anonymous source who claimed to be an insider to the show let us in on a little secret… Sam will be taking over London.
“We couldn’t have Samantha roaming around New York City and not have [Miranda and Charlotte] not interacting with her. It just wouldn’t have made sense.” The source told The Daily Mail.
“Sending her to Los Angeles wasn’t an option as we’d done that in the first movie, so having her character based in London really was the perfect way to keep her alive and explain her absence.” The source explained.
“Viewers will learn that she is thriving in England even though she has fallen out with Carrie.” This last detail comes with speculations that the friendship between Bradshaw and Jones simply couldn’t overcome Carrie firing Sam as her publicist. While we all mourn arguably the best duo of the show, let us not forget we have a new Londoner to welcome to the city.
In honour of this news here is 5 ways to feel closer to the most missed character of the soon to be released reboot, along with Sam’s words of wisdom, of course…
Visit the Vagina museum – If I had a son I’d teach him all about the vagina
In full Samantha style head down to Stables Market, Camden to visit the world’s first bricks and mortar museum about the female reproductive system. While educating both men and women on vaginas the museum highlights societal issues around them too because just like Jones would say ‘I will not be judged by you or society’
It’s cosmopolitan o’clock – I have to start writing things down. I also have to start drinking heavily.
There is no better way to welcome Samantha Jones than with a welcome drink, and what cocktail if not the SATC iconic cosmo? While it might not be London’s most typical drink, some fancier bars in Chelsea and Kensington will totally match Samantha’s vibe. So sit down and relax while sipping your cosmo at the K Bar at the Kensington Hotel or maybe at the Luggage Room, one of Mayfair’s most fashionable bars.
Download bumble – Honey, my vagina waits for no man
If Sam was to try online dating bumble would definitely be her app. Opposite to other dating platforms in bumble women get to make the first move embracing Samantha Jones’ confidence, power and spontaneity, which is what makes her the undisputable sexiest New Yorker, and now Londoner too.
Make some Sushi – I got wasabi in places in where one should never get wasabi
To honour Samantha’s most hilarious epiphany which brought to us one of her most loved quotes ‘I love you but I love myself more’ why not treating yourself with a sushi making workshop? We happen to know one that won’t break your bank account too. Yo!Sushi offers a class that will teach you all the basis for only £25 pounds and will send you home with a rolling mat, a 25% off voucher, a guide to making sushi and the sushi you made. Whether you decide to use it all over your body to surprise a lover, or whether you decide to simply eat it that is entirely up to you.
Go to one of London’s best sex shops – I’m masturbating. I told you I’d be doing that all day today.
Because Samantha is all about embracing your own sexuality and exploring your kinks, why not connect to the character by hanging out at London’s sexiest corners? From Agent Provocateur, the sex shop originally founded by Vivienne Westwood’s son, to Coco de Mer, one of London’s most glamourous erotic emporium, the city will not let you – nor your inner Samantha – down.
Wondering how to find Samantha’s London spots?
The long-awaited reboot will be available to watch for its UK audience on Sky Comedy and NOWTV on Thursday 9 December. While Kim Cattrall will be definitely deeply missed, follow this map and just like that it will feel like Samantha Jones never really left.
