From 4am Tuesday 7 December, anyone aged 12 and above who wish to travel to the UK will need to show a negative pre-departure test result (LFD or PCR) in no more than 48 hours before departure.

This travel rule is based on the emerging evidence of the Omicron variant and will hopefully slow down the importation of the new disease.

Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, said: “We appreciate this will be difficult for the travel sector, it’s important we prioritise public health.”

Analysis from the UKHSA suggests that majority of Omicron cases identified in the UK are linked to travel from South Africa and Nigeria.

Nigeria is on the UK’s travel red list. People from red list countries must book and stay in managed quarantine hotel for 10 full days.

Travel rules can change at any time, click the link and find out your overseas travel advice.
