The last time Brazil played at Wembley

On Tuesday, England will take on Brazil at Wembley Stadium and although it’s just a friendly, games against the Seleçao always attract attention from around footballing world. It is usually a chance to face world’s best players; and England will indeed play against the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Neymar tomorrow.

The last time Brazil played at Wembley was four years ago. The Voice of London has taken a look at how different the tomorrow’s fixture will be comparing it to the one in February 2013, when a second half goal from Frank Lampard clinched a 2-1 victory for England.

It was the FA’s 150th anniversary…

And the game against Brazil was a part of the series of events celebrating the occasion. It also included Wembley hosting the Champions League final that year, and releasing a tube map consisting of famous football names.

Jack Wilshere was still widely considered a talent…

Wilshere, still thriving off the back of his performance against Barcelona two years earlier, started the game in the middle of the park alongside Steven Gerrard and… Tom Cleverley. However, he gifted the visitors a penalty after a handball in the 19th minute.

Ronaldinho still played football, and even featured in the starting line-up…

It was Dinho’s 100th cap for Brazil, and third last for his national team. He won’t remember it well, though, as he missed the penalty given away by Wilshere.

Ashley Cole had his celebratory night, too…

The occasion was also an anniversary 100th cap for Cole; although he played just in the first half, being substituted by Leighton Baines at halftime.

Harry Kane played for Norwich and Leicester, on loan…

…and scored two just two goals for the Foxes during that time. Meanwhile, England faced Brazil with the trio Rooney, Walcott, Welbeck up front.

It was England’s first win over Brazil in 23 years…

Gary Lineker scored the only goal on 28 March 1990, when England faced Brazil at the old Wembley in a friendly game. A few months later, the Three Lions finished fourth in the 1990 World Cup.
