At Westminster Business School, the option to attend a range of Summer Schools across the globe is embedded into all of our courses. This gives students the unique opportunity to experience other cultures from across the globe first-hand and provides a change of scenery from our London campus’.
One student who embarked on a Summer School experience is Ryan Dinu, a second-year Fintech with Data Analytics BSc student who recently visited Copenhagen Business School and has written the following blog about his experience abroad.
I had seen the various emails and posts on Blackboard in regards to studying abroad and summer school programmes and decided that I may as well send an application in hopes of securing a place. Luckily enough, I was accepted into the Copenhagen Business School Summer University to study Business and Social Data Science, and furthermore also received the Global Experience Bursary from the University of Westminster which helped to subsidise the cost of accommodation and flights.
The course was 3 weeks long and aimed at processing, transforming and visualising diverse data types, and then being able to communicate the results effectively while reaching data-driven conclusions. The reason I chose this course specifically is because it introduced me to the programming language R which has enhanced my data analysis skillset and it also directly relates to the course I am currently studying – BSc FinTech with Data Analytics.
During my time in Copenhagen, I stayed at the Kathrine Kollegiet accommodation which was only a 10-minute bus ride to the CBS campus and a 20-minute bus ride to the city centre – this was highly convenient. It had all the facilities you would need during your stay and the people that I met within the accommodation were from all different walks of life. This was one of the highlights of my stay in Copenhagen as we formed a really close group of friends from across the world who were all on the same journey and had the same mindset as you: to make the most of their time here in Denmark. This allowed us to go out together, to visit some other cities within Denmark such as Billund and Roskilde, and even Sweden! Knowing that after a day at CBS you could come back to the accommodation and find at least one person to embark on an adventure with, or just simply have a chat in the common room was an amazing feeling.
The quality of education at CBS was thorough which benefited students as we were taught so much in such a short period of time. The teachers that I interacted with were very open and willing to help with your studies and time in Denmark, which I found reassuring. The online resources were useful and relevant to our stay, as well as the library and other facilities, which goes to show why CBS is a renowned school.
My experience at the Copenhagen Business School is one that has shaped me and my trajectory in life. I have formed countless friendships and connections, I now have a keen interest in Denmark and its neighbouring countries, and I have experienced things that I would not have had the chance to elsewhere. As cliché as it may sound, this really is a once in a lifetime opportunity (at least it is in my humble opinion), and I genuinely encourage everyone to apply for a summer school abroad – the people you meet, the things you do and see and the culture you’re surrounded by will provide you with an unmatched perspective of the world around you.
