Starting uni is exciting – but it can feel like a lot to take in. We asked current Westminster students to share the advice they wish they’d had before they started. Here are their top tips to help you feel ready for what’s ahead.
Use What’s Available
Attend the guest lectures, talk to the professionals who visit campus, explore the law library, dive into research, and don’t be afraid to ask for help – the support system here is genuinely solid. Whether it’s your personal tutor, the DLS team, or even your lecturers, people here care and they will guide you.
Stay Intentional
The University of Westminster offers a lot: flexible modules, practical learning, inspiring professors and the incredible advantage of being based in London. But what you take away from it depends entirely on how you engage with it. If you stay intentional, this place can genuinely transform you.
Find Your People
London is full of distractions. It’s easy to get swept up in the noise. So stay close to those who have direction – people who have goals, who are going places, and who lift you up with their ambition and values.
Make the Most of What’s On Offer
For anyone considering choosing Westminster, my suggestion is to fully embrace all that the university has to offer. Make the most of the fantastic academic resources, career services, and international opportunities available – they greatly enhance your overall experience!
Get Involved and Build Connections
The inclusive and diverse atmosphere makes it simple to connect with others, so make sure to attend any events available and join societies – this is where you’ll meet people and build lasting friendships.
Explore London
If you’re not familiar with London, make sure to explore it – the city is full of cultural and professional experiences that can enrich you academically but also socially.
