Microsoft has recently announced the expansion of Microsoft Copilot access to all university colleagues and higher education students aged 18 and above, with commercial data protection. The Copilot will offer features like GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 at no additional cost, ensuring data protection and privacy. See this blog post for further details.
In the same blog post, Microsoft states that eligibility for Microsoft 365 co-pilot is to be extended to university colleagues across the sector but at a $30 per month per user price. At present, it is unclear whether individual university staff can approach Microsoft to purchase a licence or whether this needs to be done at scale by an institution. Equally unclear at this stage is how many institutions, if any, will be prepared to invest the extra capital needed to support all colleagues and students in the sector by providing a licence.
