Our award winning Future Ready Mentoring programme is seeking mentors who can support our Computer Science students through Group Mentoring between January and March. If you, your colleagues or contacts have experience of the IT and technology industry, or in Business Management and Entrepreneurship, you could inspire our students who aspire to pursue a similar career path.
What are the benefits of being a mentor?
As a mentor, you have the chance to develop key skills such as leadership, communication and group facilitation, enhancing your professional development. Additionally, being a mentor provides you with opportunities to connect with our diverse mentor network and build connections in your industry.
What happens if I apply?
Once you register as a mentor, we will send you all the information you need to be fully prepared for Group Mentoring. We will also invite you to the Mentor Induction Training and share support materials with you, including our Mentor Briefing Document, which outlines the objectives of each session and encourages group discussion.
Group mentoring Computer Science sessions
The sessions will take place over two different modules.
The Information Driven Entrepreneurship and Enterprise module:
As part of this module, final year students will work in small groups to develop a plan for a viable online business concept. Their online business proposals might take the form of launching a product, service or solution, through to a social media platform or not-for-profit organisation. The online business proposals will be assessed as part of the module.
The themes and objectives of the three sessions include:
- Developing and pitching a viable online business
- Presenting any idea / project, working with different audiences
- Applying your knowledge to succeed in your career
Mentors are required to support students during these timeslots:
- Mondays 3-4pm and/or 5-6pm (2 February, 16 February and 9 March)
The Software Development Group Project module:
This module covers managerial and technical aspects of software development, emphasising iterative delivery using an agile approach and feedback from industry contacts. It also focuses on team communication, problem-solving, and reflection on professional issues like project documentation quality, cybersecurity, ethics and code of conduct.
A big part of the module focuses on the project management side of software development so mentors do not need to have software development skills, though they might be beneficial.
The two group mentoring sessions will focus on the following themes:
- Teamwork and project plans
- Reflection, feedback and career application
Mentors are required to support students during these timeslots:
- Mondays 10-11am, 12-1pm, 3-4pm and/or 5-6pm (2 February, 16 March)
- Tuesdays 10-11am, 12-1pm, 3-4pm and/or 5-6pm (3 February, 17 March)
For each of the mentoring sessions, we will reimburse you up to £15 for refreshments and all travel expenses to and from the Cavendish Campus. During the time of the mentoring sessions, all mentors must be based in London or the surrounding areas.
This is a fantastic opportunity to support our Group Mentoring Programme and we look forward to having you registered with us as a Group Mentor. If you are interested in participating, please complete this form by Monday 23rd January 2026.
