Dear Alumnus,
I hope this message finds you well and thriving in your endeavours.
As we break for the summer and reflect on another brilliant year at the University of Westminster, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge all that you do to contribute to our wonderful and distinctive community.
Our reputation as an innovative, diverse and truly global university is thanks to your many successes out in the world, as well as your continued support for our current students.
A special thanks to those of you who dedicate your time to mentor, host and speak with our students. Offering these insights into and connections with employers makes a huge difference to the student experience and our students’ prospects once they graduate. Especially those who come to us from more disadvantaged backgrounds.
It’s your collective commitment to supporting such students, and making the world a better and more equitable place, which sets you apart as Westminster graduates.
Graduations
I had the pleasure of spending a week in July celebrating our latest cohort of graduates at the summer ceremonies. The atmosphere at Royal Festival Hall during this time is remarkable – full of joy, celebration and pride.
Congratulations again to those of you who completed your degrees and crossed the stage this year. I hope you are able to take some time now to acknowledge this incredible achievement before taking your next steps.
Graduation really isn’t goodbye; we will keep in touch to support you as you begin your career journey. Be sure to make the most of the many opportunities on offer – especially the three years of free careers support – as you commence your early careers and put your distinguished Westminster degrees to good use.
An impactful year…..
We have enjoyed a really wonderful and impactful year here at our university.
It is tremendous that some 12,000 of our current students, including so many of you who have just graduated, have been regularly engaged in our clubs and societies. Whatever your personal interest, engaging together in activities through our clubs and societies is a great way to interact, make friends and accentuate even further our sense of belonging to our Westminster community.
Our Westminster Dragons sports teams have also flourished this year, with a big step up in participation, and some outstanding performances including National Championship wins and international representation.
Our end of year graduate shows have been spectacular with some superb creativity and innovation on display. Many congratulations to all of you, now our graduates, who took part in these shows. Please take confidence from your outstanding work as you find your way in the next stage of your lives. Thanks too for the inspiration and joy you bring us through your work.
We have organised and hosted a plethora of other conferences and events, some locally focused and others, like the Global Health Nutrition Congress, bringing the world to Westminster. These have contributed to our vibrant endeavours to make a positive impact to our local, national and international communities towards a more socially just, equitable and positive world.
Sustainable Development
Sustainable Development is one of our three guiding priorities (alongside our focus on wellbeing and inclusion), so it has been lovely this summer to see our hard work recognised and celebrated on a global stage.
In June, Times Higher Education published their sixth annual Impact Rankings, where we are ranked in the top 15% of universities globally, up from the top 20% last year. The rankings identify and celebrate universities across the globe who excel in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and our position is a great achievement, particularly as the number of institutions being assessed has grown by 23%.
This, and our strong performance in SDGs 5: Gender Equality, 10: Reduced Inequalities and 12: Responsible Consumption and Production are testament to our dedication and commitment to creating positive impacts in the world through our research, education and operational endeavours.
So we are rounding of the academic year with much to be proud of – our individual achievements, our diversity and differences, and our commitment to making the world a better place. I hope you too feel proud to be part of such a responsible, progressive and compassionate community.
Do continue to stay in touch – we love hearing about your achievements out in the world. I look forward to seeing and collaborating with many more of you in the new academic year.
All best wishes,
Peter

Hello to all Alumni and staff. Well done to all and recent graduates. I completed my BEng in Mobile and Web Computing with a 2:1, then my MSc in Computer Science with a Merit. I am always proud of my achievers and am forever grateful for all the support I achieved, especially as a mature student.
I hope the University will continue to contribute more and more to society and even help with the environment in areas such as Carbon capture which is much needed at the moment.
Thank you to the University for always involving us Alumni and allowing us to be part of this great, vibrant community.
All the best to everyone.
