The 2021 Employability Awards Celebration (#EAC2021) event took place virtually on Wednesday, the 2nd of June, and was attended by Student and Academic Services, Academics, Employer Partners, Alumni and Mentors.
This event was an opportunity to present awards to students who have successfully participated in employability initiatives including Westminster Employability Award, Mentoring, Work Experience and Placements, and more.
The virtual celebration was hosted by Jay Nugent – Student Engagement & Projects Officer – and Caroline Lloyd – Director of Student and Academic Services. It kicked off with a congratulatory video from Peter Bonfield, Vice-Chancellor and President at the University of Westminster.
Seven hundred and sixty two students completed their Westminster Employability Award (WEA) for the 2020/2021 Academic year with a 292% increase in completions compared to last year. There were seven financial prizes for top WEA scorers across each of the 3 colleges and total prize money of £15,000.
The virtual event was hosted over Zoom and live-streamed on the CES Youtube Channel. Another highlight included a video of nine students, who talked about their achievements and experience gained through participating in the Westminster Employability Award (e.g. transferable skills developed through attending virtual events and completing virtual work experience).
Some student award categories included:
- Bronze, Silver and Gold completion of the Westminster Employability Award;
- Outstanding contribution to students who have scored 300 points or more and engaged with a variety of activities throughout the course of their studies;
- Personal development where students demonstrated exceptional attention into their reflective writing, and skills audit;
- Completion of long and short-term placement;
- Participation in long and short-term Mentoring Schemes.
Some employer award categories included:
- Best Mentor of the Year;
- Best Employer of the Year (Work Experience and Placements).
Congratulations once again to all of the winners! We are proud of all of our students that have been working hard on improving their employability in times of great uncertainty and increased competition. And a big thank you to all of our employer partners, including Alumni Mentors, for sharing their knowledge and expertise with the Westminster community. Finally, thanks to all staff members, including professional and academic staff, on all their hard work with supporting and promoting these career initiatives to our students.
