A lack of attractive retirement housing and negative perceptions are preventing larger family homes being made available for younger buyers, according to a study from the International Longevity Centre-UK, produced for housing provider Hanover. The paper recommends that health and social care policy should encourage people to move to the type of housing that best meets their needs, and that the government should work with councils to assess whether they have enough homes for older people.

Knight Frank’s annual report on the house building sector involves a survey of 100 senior executives from house builders and developers, looking at issues concerning the house building industry. The survey was carried out shortly after the chancellor announced the help to buy scheme in the Budget in March 2013. It suggests help to buy could aid price growth and boost development volumes but only if lenders and buyers engage with the scheme. It points out the take-up of newbuy, a pre-cursor to help to buy, was relatively modest in the first year.

ISEMOA seeks to improve accessibility of pedestrian, cyclist, and public transport services and facilities allowing citizens to adopt a less car-dependent life-style. The ISEMOA Quality Management System (ISEMOA QMS) closely examines the whole journey – from door-to-door. Each journey is composed of several elements that together make up the “mobility chain”. The ISEMOA QMS follows a structured quality management approach based on a moderated audit process. This proven approach, guided by an ISEMOA auditor, helps local and regional stakeholders to assess the level of accessibility of public space and public transport in their area, and it helps to develop strategies and measures for improving the accessibility work.

The policy recommendations from the LOWCAP project have been officially published online. The document, which is available to view for free, includes recommendations under different themes for delivering a low carbon, energy efficient North Sea Region, while at the same time addressing the European level. The LOWCAP cluster project presents a review of the knowledge exchange and experiences from four Interreg projects. Key results from these projects have been compiled and analysed to produce a North Sea Region perspective on low carbon and energy efficiency issues. The recommendations are open for comments.
