Impact and Public Engagement

Being aware of the impact and public engagement potential of your work is hugely important.

We will be holding workshops throughout the year on creating and evidencing your impact. The videos below should hopefully serve as a useful introduction to some ideas to explore further at these sessions, or to discuss with the Research Impact Officer, Jeeshan Gazi, who you can email at j.gazi@westminster.ac.uk.

This video explores the importance of impact in the research landscape and how you might highlight the impact potential of your work.

This video takes a deeper look at research impact, considering how you can best embed it, and the recording or tracking of it, into your work from the very beginning of a project or idea.

This video introduces you to the University’s Press Office, exploring the work they do to support research, how they might help you and how you might consider the press appeal of your work more broadly.

This video explains how to update the public and community engagement section of your researcher profile in the VRE.

In this video, Dr Bradley Elliot discusses the dynamics of engaging the public in academic research in online and in-person contexts. Bradley is the Public Engagement Lead in the College of Liberal Arts and Science and hosts the Different Conversations podcast: https://anchor.fm/differentconversations

The University of Westminster is a member of the Universities Policy Engagement Network (UPEN) – a community of UK universities committed to increasing the impact of research on policy. UPEN offers a dedicated contact point for policymakers, and a collective response to requests for evidence.

You can find guidance from UPEN and a list of current policy engagement opportunities on the R&KE SharePoint site.
