500,000 people attend Lord Mayor’s Show

Half a million people turned out in the City of London on Saturday to celebrate the appointment of the 692nd Lord Mayor of London William Russell, according to the statistics from Daily Mail.

William Russell, waving with a wide smile, raised his feather hat from the Golden Grand State Coach to the crowd attending the 804th Lord Mayor’s Show.

His carriage was drawn by six shire horses that took him down the three-mile long procession, beginning at Mansion House at 11 a.m. via St Paul’s and finishing at the Royal Courts of Justice.

The full map of the parade could be found here:

Although it was a cold and bone-chilling morning, most roads in the city were completely closed, admitting no traffic whatsoever. It did not stop the enthusiasm of the citizens to participate.

Around half a million people stood on both sides of the road and waved at Mr Russell to show respect while also paying tribute to British culture.

Over 7,000 people, 200 horses, 150 decorated floats with dozens of military bands and carriages participated in the joyful civic parade. Chinese dragons, a giant pig and robots all took to London Street for the Lord Mayor’s Show, which is the largest and most colorful event in London’s calendar.

A variety of associations, corporations and universities were chosen to be representatives to take part in the parade, for instance, Royal Air Force, Worshipful Company of Farmers, Durham University and the like.

There are diverse displays throughout the ceremony. Dancers-who were dressed in vibrant oriental dress-put on a spectacular display during the show. Also, men were captured wearing crumpet costumes to show British traditions.

Newman Abi, who was attending the event because her daughter is participating in the parade said: “I’m quite proud of this event; It’s a special way to show the old traditions and encourage young people to get involved’.

Smith told us that he is crying with excitement at the diversity in London, and a good platform for business.

Williams Russell, who gave a short speech in front of the St Paul’s Cathedral, claimed supporting innovation, promoting global trade and arts and culture are the key themes in this year.

London’s citizens are looking forward to his contribution, to make this city become a more appealing place to live, work and visit.
