Chris Noth, actor known for his role as Mr. Big on Sex and the City, has been accused of sexual assault by two women on the release date of the third episode of the show’s revival. Noth gave a statement denying all the accusations.
The women, who have claimed not to know each other, contacted the Hollywood reporter separately and disclosed information about similar alleged rapes by the actor just a week after Noth took back his role in SATC reboot ‘And Just like That’.
While the alleged rapes happened more than a decade apart, both victims, identified in the Hollywood Reporter by the pseudonyms of Zoe and Lily, were in their twenties.
Zoe told the publication she met Noth in 2004, through an entry-level work entertainment job when she was 22 and he was 49. She alleges that the actor lured her into his apartment, kissed her and began having sex with her in front of a mirror.
“It was very painful and I yelled out, ‘Stop!’ the now 40 year-old woman said. “And he didn’t. I said, ‘Can you at least get a condom?’ and he laughed at me.”
Zoe reported she had to go to Cedars-Sinai medical center where she got stitches due to injuries caused by the assault. While she got to speak to the police, she refused to name Noth because she feared she would not be believed and didn’t want to compromise her workplace.
Lily said she met Noth in 2015, when she was 25 and the actor was 60. The young woman said she was working as a server at the now closed New York nightclub No.8 when she met Noth. She recalls the actor asking her to dinner under the false pretence of wanting to discuss career plans with her.
Lily, now 31-year-old journalist, said she accompanied Noth to his apartment in Greenwich Village when she alleges, he kissed her, shoved his penis in her mouth and started having sex with her, also in front of a mirror. “I was kind of crying as it happened,” Lily said.
Hollywood reporter reviewed and shared a conversation over text messages between Lily and the actor which allude to the alleged sexual intercourse. In the text Lily told Noth she felt “slightly used” and despite making plans to meet again she eventually cancelled and they never met again.
Noth gave a statement to the Hollywood reporter in which he denied the accusations calling them “categorically false”. “These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago – no always means no – that is a line I did not cross,” he said.
On the release date of the third episode of the HBO show’s revival And Just like That he said “It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out.” The actor said “I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women.”
On such matters Zoe told the magazine that “Seeing that he was reprising his role in Sex and the City set off something in me,” She said that the release of the reboot made her realise it was time “to try to go public with who he is”
While HBO Max have yet to address the allegations made against Noth, many fans of the show shared how their perception of Mr. Big changed after the accusations.
Marica, 24 year-old student who started watching the show when she was 15 said “I used to love Mr. Big and now watching old episodes I’ve realised the accusations ruined him for me, it just doesn’t feel the same “.
Alice, 24 year-old graphic designer who started watching Sex and the City when she was 11, said “I can’t lie, I did feel uncomfortable thinking about how all of Noth’s female colleagues must feel now, but I tend to separate actors’ private lives from their fictional characters so the news didn’t spoil the show for me.”
