The contraceptive pill: friend or enemy?

More than 3.1 million women in England from 2017 to 2018 took either the combined pill or mini pill, prescribed from the GP or pharmacies. This means that almost nine in 10 women who receive contraception are prescribed pill.

Since it became available on the NHS, more than 50 years ago, it has become the most popular birth control method in England and worldwide.

Despite its popularity, in recent years its effects have been questioned by experts and patients. Are women really aware of what it supposes to consume synthetic hormones? Which side effects can a woman get from taking it?
