The state of our mental health affects our overall wellbeing and how we interact with the world around us. It extends beyond our personal moods and emotions, and it plays a big role in how we navigate life. Just as we prioritise our physical health, taking care of our mental wellbeing is equally important.
In this article we outline three steps to enhance your mental health and overall wellbeing.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to your personal tutors, academics, or teaching assistants when facing challenges or struggling with coursework. Try to proactively discuss concerns and seek clarification on assignments and expectations. If you are experiencing personal matters that you think may be impacting your mental health and wellbeing consider reaching out to us via the student services page.
Once you reach out to us, you will be connected with a specialist wellbeing adviser or therapist who will provide you with confidential one-to-one support in a safe space. Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness, and addressing concerns early can prevent them from escalating.
We provide confidential information and advice on a range of topics such as:
We also have a diverse team of professionally trained counsellors who are happy to talk to you about anything that’s bothering you. Have a look on the Counselling page to find out more.
Disability learning support
If you have a disability or long-term health condition that affects your studies, our disability learning support team offer confidential support to help you make the most of your studies.

Build a strong social support network by staying connected with friends and family. If you are new to London and don’t have many local friends, try attending one of the networking events to meet new people. Visit our events page to find out more about any upcoming events.
You can also join a society to meet other likeminded people. The Westminster Students’ Union (UWSU) core function is to provide students with opportunities that enhance their university experience, such as sports clubs, societies, and student jobs, and to be a platform through which their voices can be heard. These groups are an opportunity for students to meet people with similar interests and passions.
